At West Town Academy, we understand that there are hundreds of different reasons why young adults leave school before graduation. By providing an engaging and nurturing academic learning environment, WTA is geared towards helping students reach their fullest potential. Our small, multi-level classes are intentionally designed to meet the individual needs of each student. Teachers and staff are high-trained and state certified, and are fully prepared to provide flexible and personalized attention to all WTA students. West Town Academy sets high scholastic and moral standards for all students, with the hope that graduates will become lifelong learners and make positive contributions to their communities and society. The values and skills that our students learn and practice will help them succeed, and is an important step in helping realizing their immediate goals and future dreams. 

All students also meet with an on-site transition counselor who assists students in navigating college admissions, financial aid, career pathway identification, or the vocational school or apprenticeship application process. WTA also provides extensive support services for DCFS clients, teen parents, and other students with special needs. Our support services extend well beyond graduation to continue helping alumni/ae with college and career transitions.

West Town Academy understands that not all learning takes place in the classroom, and that not every aspect of high school is just about academics—it’s also about being a part of a community, exploring interests, and learning about the world around us through new experiences. WTA’s unique approach to learning combines traditional curriculum with social, cultural, and educational field activities that prepare students for the world beyond the walls of the classroom, and allows them to develop new interests and expand their ideas of what’s possible for the future. Some of the many opportunities that students have to expand their horizons include: 

· Visiting Chicago’s world-class museums 

· Theatrical and symphony performances 

· Campus visits to colleges and universities 

· Site visits to vocational schools, local businesses, and other post-secondary opportunities 

· Interactive service learning with other community organizations
